Entrust to God

Prayer is easy, but entrusting to God is hard. We can keep praying again and again about the same matter, yet it seems nothing is moving forward. The road ahead is uncertain, our situation has not improved, and our worries remain.

The more we care about something, the more tightly we want to hold it in our own hands—and the less willing we are to entrust it to God. As a man, I often worry about work, hoping that progress will stay under my control. I may pray many times, but I still struggle to entrust it to God, to let go of my fixation on the outcome and the anxiety that comes with it. That’s why entrusting is a lesson, a discipline, even a spiritual battle. We must use the weapons God has given us—the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God!

Let us meditate on the Scriptures below, and place in God’s hands our future path, our health and life, our worries, the outcomes of our situations, and all the things we cannot and should not control. When you bravely entrust to God, after the storm you will see that our God truly cares for us. He is always there, He sees, and not only does He see—He holds everything in His hands!

Entrust our way to him

3Commit your deeds to the LORD, and your plans shall succeed.

5Commit your way to the LORD. Trust also in him, and he will do this:

5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says the LORD, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

Entrust our life to him

14But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless.

8“He trusts in the LORD. Let him deliver him. Let him rescue him, since he delights in him.” 9But you brought me out of the womb. You made me trust while at my mother’s breasts. 10I was thrown on you from my mother’s womb. You are my God since my mother bore me.

5Into your hand I commend my spirit. You redeem me, LORD, God of truth.

23When he was cursed, he didn’t curse back. When he suffered, he didn’t threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously.

19Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.

44It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour. 45The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two. 46Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” Having said this, he breathed his last.

Entrust our burden and worry to God

7Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 8Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

22Cast your burden on the LORD and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

19Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burdens, even the God who is our salvation. Selah.

28“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

6In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Other verses about entrust to God

40But Paul chose Silas and went out, being commended by the brothers to the grace of God.

26From there they sailed to Antioch, from where they had been committed to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled.

23When they had appointed elders for them in every assembly, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord on whom they had believed.

32Now, brothers, I entrust you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

12For this cause I also suffer these things. Yet I am not ashamed, for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed to him against that day.

Abraham entrusting Isaac to God (Genesis 22:1-19)

1After these things, God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” He said, “Here I am.”
2He said, “Now take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go into the land of Moriah. Offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will tell you of.”
3Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his donkey; and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son. He split the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went to the place of which God had told him.
4On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place far off.
5Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over there. We will worship, and come back to you.”
6Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. He took in his hand the fire and the knife. They both went together.
7Isaac spoke to Abraham his father, and said, “My father?” He said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”
8Abraham said, “God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they both went together.
9They came to the place which God had told him of. Abraham built the altar there, and laid the wood in order, bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar, on the wood.
10Abraham stretched out his hand, and took the knife to kill his son.
11The LORD’s angel called to him out of the sky, and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” He said, “Here I am.”
12He said, “Don’t lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”
13Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and saw that behind him was a ram caught in the thicket by his horns. Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering instead of his son.
14Abraham called the name of that place “The LORD Will Provide”. As it is said to this day, “On the LORD’s mountain, it will be provided.”
15The LORD’s angel called to Abraham a second time out of the sky,
16and said, “‘I have sworn by myself,’ says the LORD, ‘because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son,
17that I will bless you greatly, and I will multiply your offspring greatly like the stars of the heavens, and like the sand which is on the seashore. Your offspring will possess the gate of his enemies.
18All the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring, because you have obeyed my voice.’”
19So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba. Abraham lived at Beersheba.

The three friends of Daniel entrusting their life to God (Daniel 3:1-18)

1Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its width six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
2Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the local governors, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
3Then the local governors, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces were gathered together to the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
4Then the herald cried aloud, “To you it is commanded, peoples, nations, and languages,
5that whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up.
6Whoever doesn’t fall down and worship shall be cast into the middle of a burning fiery furnace the same hour.”
7Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
8Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near and brought accusation against the Jews.
9They answered Nebuchadnezzar the king, “O king, live for ever!
10You, O king, have made a decree that every man who hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music shall fall down and worship the golden image;
11and whoever doesn’t fall down and worship shall be cast into the middle of a burning fiery furnace.
12There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, have not respected you. They don’t serve your gods, and don’t worship the golden image which you have set up.”
13Then Nebuchadnezzar in rage and fury commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. Then these men were brought before the king.
14Nebuchadnezzar answered them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you don’t serve my gods and you don’t worship the golden image which I have set up?
15Now if you are ready whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music to fall down and worship the image which I have made, good; but if you don’t worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the middle of a burning fiery furnace. Who is that god who will deliver you out of my hands?”
16Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, “Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.
17If it happens, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
18But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up.”

God watches over us (Psalm 121:1-8)

1I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from?
2My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
3He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber.
4Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5The LORD is your keeper. The LORD is your shade on your right hand.
6The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul.
8The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You in repentance, because so often we try to control things that are beyond our control—such as our future path, our health and life, the outcomes of situations, and so much more. We want to rely on our own understanding, yet we are unwilling to trust in You and acknowledge You. We want to turn back! Lord, I repent of our pride, for we think we can control many things. Lord, I also repent of our greed—for though we have already received so much grace from You, we still look at what we do not have and long for more.

Lord, have mercy on us. When anxiety grips our hearts, Lord, set us free. Holy Spirit, work in us and reveal to us that You are the God who truly cares for us. Help us to understand that we must entrust our burdens to You, for You are the One who bears our burdens. You neither slumber nor sleep, but watch over us at all times!

Father God, we want to thank You. We have received grace upon grace from You. Looking back, we suddenly realise that our paths are dripping with oil, and that the boundary lines have fallen for us in pleasant places. Most importantly, through the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus, You have caused us to be born again into a living hope and given us an eternal inheritance.

At this very moment, no matter what we are going through, we entrust our future path and our lives into Your hands. We lay down the burdens on our shoulders before You, because You are willing to carry them for us. You are our loving Abba Father! We pray all this in the precious name of our Lord Jesus. Amen!
