We all face different fears and anxieties in life.

As we begin to mediate on the love of God and lift our eyes to the things above, we gain a heavenly perspective. From that moment on, fear loses its grip, lies no longer hold us, and darkness cannot remain. The love of God brings true freedom.

But God doesn’t just call us to receive love—he commands us to be givers of it. We are called to love him above all, not the world, and to love others as ourselves.

Therefore, let us mediate the love of God daily and encourage one another to walk in the way of love!

His love

Deuteronomy 7:7-8

7The LORD didn’t set his love on you nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples; 8but because the LORD loves you, and because he desires to keep the oath which he swore to your fathers, the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

Isaiah 63:9

9In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and in his pity he redeemed them. He bore them, and carried them all the days of old.

2 Timothy 1:7

7For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

John 3:16

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

1 John 4:9–10

9By this God’s love was revealed in us, that God has sent his only born Son into the world that we might live through him. 10In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Romans 5:8

8But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Ephesians 2:4-5

4But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, 5even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—

Romans 8:38-39

38For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 John 3:1

1See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him.

Hebrews 12:6

6For whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives.”

Zephaniah 3:17

17The LORD, your God, is among you, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will calm you in his love. He will rejoice over you with singing.

Lamentations 3:32-33

32For though he causes grief, yet he will have compassion according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses. 33For he does not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.

Praise his love

Psalm 57:9-11

9I will give thanks to you, Lord, among the peoples. I will sing praises to you among the nations. 10For your great loving kindness reaches to the heavens, and your truth to the skies. 11Be exalted, God, above the heavens. Let your glory be over all the earth.

Psalm 100:5

5For the LORD is good. His loving kindness endures forever, his faithfulness to all generations.

Lamentations 3:22–23

22It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his mercies don’t fail. 23They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

Jeremiah 31:3-4

3The LORD appeared of old to me, saying, “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love. Therefore I have drawn you with loving kindness. 4I will build you again, and you will be built, O virgin of Israel. You will again be adorned with your tambourines, and will go out in the dances of those who make merry.

Psalm 103:11

11For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his loving kindness toward those who fear him.

He commands us to walk in love

Matthew 22:37-40

37Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and great commandment. 39A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

2 Corinthians 5:14-15

14For the love of Christ compels us; because we judge thus: that one died for all, therefore all died. 15He died for all, that those who live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who for their sakes died and rose again.

1 John 4:18

18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.

1 John 2:15

15Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.

Ephesians 3:17-19

17That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and height and depth, 19and to know Christ’s love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

John 15:9-10

9Even as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Remain in my love. 10If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.

John 13:34–35

34A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another. 35By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Ephesians 5:1–2

1Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children. 2Walk in love, even as Christ also loved us and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance.

1 John 3:16

16By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.

Colossians 3:12–14

12Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; 13bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. 14Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection.

1 Peter 4:8

8And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins.

God led his people with pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night (Exodus 13:17-22)

17When Pharaoh had let the people go, God didn’t lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and they return to Egypt”;
18but God led the people around by the way of the wilderness by the Red Sea; and the children of Israel went up armed out of the land of Egypt.
19Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had made the children of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones away from here with you.”
20They took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness.
21The LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them on their way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, that they might go by day and by night:
22the pillar of cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night, didn’t depart from before the people.

Jesus washed the disciples’ feet (John 13:1–5, 12–17)

1Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus, knowing that his time had come that he would depart from this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
2During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him,
3Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came from God and was going to God,
4arose from supper, and laid aside his outer garments. He took a towel and wrapped a towel around his waist.
5Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
12So when he had washed their feet, put his outer garment back on, and sat down again, he said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?
13You call me, ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord.’ You say so correctly, for so I am.
14If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
15For I have given you an example, that you should also do as I have done to you.
16Most certainly I tell you, a servant is not greater than his lord, neither is one who is sent greater than he who sent him.
17If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

His love endures forever (Psalm 136:1-26)

1Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.
2Give thanks to the God of gods, for his loving kindness endures forever.
3Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his loving kindness endures forever;
4to him who alone does great wonders, for his loving kindness endures forever;
5to him who by understanding made the heavens, for his loving kindness endures forever;
6to him who spread out the earth above the waters, for his loving kindness endures forever;
7to him who made the great lights, for his loving kindness endures forever;
8the sun to rule by day, for his loving kindness endures forever;
9the moon and stars to rule by night, for his loving kindness endures forever;
10to him who struck down the Egyptian firstborn, for his loving kindness endures forever;
11and brought out Israel from among them, for his loving kindness endures forever;
12with a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, for his loving kindness endures forever;
13to him who divided the Red Sea apart, for his loving kindness endures forever;
14and made Israel to pass through the middle of it, for his loving kindness endures forever;
15but overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea, for his loving kindness endures forever;
16to him who led his people through the wilderness, for his loving kindness endures forever;
17to him who struck great kings, for his loving kindness endures forever;
18and killed mighty kings, for his loving kindness endures forever;
19Sihon king of the Amorites, for his loving kindness endures forever;
20Og king of Bashan, for his loving kindness endures forever;
21and gave their land as an inheritance, for his loving kindness endures forever;
22even a heritage to Israel his servant, for his loving kindness endures forever;
23who remembered us in our low estate, for his loving kindness endures forever;
24and has delivered us from our adversaries, for his loving kindness endures forever;
25who gives food to every creature, for his loving kindness endures forever.
26Oh give thanks to the God of heaven, for his loving kindness endures forever.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, you are love. In times of suffering and pain, the enemy often deceives us into thinking you are harsh and distant. However, when we turn our eyes upon Jesus, we boldly declare that you love us deeply, and your love surpasses all knowledge.

Our Lord Jesus, thank you for laying down your life for us. We don’t deserve such grace—yet you died for us and redeemed us from the power of death. We long to follow in your footsteps and to love one another as you have loved us.

Holy Spirit, pour out the love of God into our hearts and help us understand and experience how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Help us walk in the way of love in all that we do.

In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen!
