God is the King

God is called the King of kings and Lord of lords. In today’s world, we rarely see kings with real authority. Even modern monarchs often hold only symbolic power. But God’s kingship is completely different—his rule is absolute, sovereign, and eternal. His dominion covers the whole earth and will never end. He reigns over every ruler, authority, and power.
God is the rightful King because he created all things. “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it”. Everything belongs to him, and his authority is complete.
Still, the idea of kingship can feel distant to us. In the past, people lived under kings who were feared and obeyed. A king’s word was law, and disobedience had serious consequences.
As citizens of God’s Kingdom, how should we respond?
We need to honor and revere Him as King. We are called to worship Him “with reverence and awe”, recognizing His holiness. But reverence must go beyond words—we need to obey Him. To live under His rule is to take His Word seriously and submit to His authority.
There is a holy fear that keeps us from taking Him lightly. As Scripture says:“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul”.
As we meditate on below verses, may we truly understand what it means to live under the rule of the King of kings.
His nature
1In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up; and his train filled the temple. 2Above him stood the seraphim. Each one had six wings. With two he covered his face. With two he covered his feet. With two he flew. 3One called to another, and said, “Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of Armies! The whole earth is full of his glory!” 4The foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5Then I said, “Woe is me! For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips and I live among a people of unclean lips, for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Armies!”
6I heard something like the voice of a great multitude, and like the voice of many waters, and like the voice of mighty thunders, saying, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns!
12“When you saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, you said to me, ‘No, but a king shall reign over us,’ when the LORD your God was your king.
15I am the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.”
22For the LORD is our judge. The LORD is our lawgiver. The LORD is our king. He will save us.
10Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
34Then the King will tell those on his right hand, ‘Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;
36Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here.”
14These will war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with him are called, chosen, and faithful.”
34At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored him who lives forever, for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom from generation to generation.
25Then King Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages who dwell in all the earth: “Peace be multiplied to you. 26“I make a decree that in all the dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. “For he is the living God, and steadfast forever. His kingdom is that which will not be destroyed. His dominion will be even to the end.
Praise his kingship
11Yours, LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty! For all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, LORD, and you are exalted as head above all. 12Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all! In your hand is power and might! It is in your hand to make great, and to give strength to all!
10The LORD sat enthroned at the Flood. Yes, the LORD sits as King forever.
17Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
5God has gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet. 6Sing praises to God! Sing praises! Sing praises to our King! Sing praises! 7For God is the King of all the earth. Sing praises with understanding.
3For the LORD is a great God, a great King above all gods. 4In his hand are the deep places of the earth. The heights of the mountains are also his. 5The sea is his, and he made it. His hands formed the dry land. 6Oh come, let’s worship and bow down. Let’s kneel before the LORD, our Maker, 7for he is our God. We are the people of his pasture, and the sheep in his care. Today, oh that you would hear his voice!
7Lift up your heads, you gates! Be lifted up, you everlasting doors, and the King of glory will come in. 8Who is the King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. 9Lift up your heads, you gates; yes, lift them up, you everlasting doors, and the King of glory will come in. 10Who is this King of glory? The LORD of Armies is the King of glory! Selah.
1I will exalt you, my God, the King. I will praise your name forever and ever. 2Every day I will praise you. I will extol your name forever and ever. 3Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised! His greatness is unsearchable.
10But the LORD is the true God. He is the living God, and an everlasting King. At his wrath, the earth trembles. The nations aren’t able to withstand his indignation.
6It will happen in that day that there will not be light, cold, or frost. 7It will be a unique day which is known to the LORD—not day, and not night; but it will come to pass that at evening time there will be light. 9The LORD will be King over all the earth. In that day the LORD will be one, and his name one.
9Worship the LORD in holy array. Tremble before him, all the earth. 10Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns.” The world is also established. It can’t be moved. He will judge the peoples with equity.
1The LORD reigns! He is clothed with majesty! The LORD is armed with strength. The world also is established. It can’t be moved. 2Your throne is established from long ago. You are from everlasting.
22It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in, 23who brings princes to nothing, who makes the judges of the earth meaningless. 24They are planted scarcely. They are sown scarcely. Their stock has scarcely taken root in the ground. He merely blows on them, and they wither, and the whirlwind takes them away as stubble.
19The LORD has established his throne in the heavens. His kingdom rules over all. 20Praise the LORD, you angels of his, who are mighty in strength, who fulfill his word, obeying the voice of his word. 21Praise the LORD, all you armies of his, you servants of his, who do his pleasure. 22Praise the LORD, all you works of his, in all places of his dominion. Praise the LORD, my soul!
16The LORD is King forever and ever! The nations will perish out of his land.
3They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God, the Almighty! Righteous and true are your ways, you King of the nations.
1The LORD says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build to me? Where will I rest? 2For my hand has made all these things, and so all these things came to be,” says the LORD: “but I will look to this man, even to he who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word.
6You are the LORD, even you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their army, the earth and all things that are on it, the seas and all that is in them, and you preserve them all. The army of heaven worships you.
14That you keep the commandment without spot, blameless until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15which at the right time he will show, who is the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords. 16He alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen nor can see, to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.
His will
28Therefore, receiving a Kingdom that can’t be shaken, let’s have grace, through which we serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe,
6Oh come, let’s worship and bow down. Let’s kneel before the LORD, our Maker, 7for he is our God. We are the people of his pasture, and the sheep in his care. Today, oh that you would hear his voice! 8Don’t harden your heart, as at Meribah, as in the day of Massah in the wilderness, 9when your fathers tempted me, tested me, and saw my work.
12Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
13This is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. 14For God will bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil.

Prayer
Father God, you are truly the King of kings and Lord of lords, worthy of all honor. You are enthroned above the circle of the earth; you reign in majesty and dwell in glory.
We kneel before you and bow down in worship, for you are our God. We are the people of your pasture, the flock under your tender care.
Father, we repent for the times we have taken your kingship lightly. Let a holy fear rise within us—a deep and abiding reverence that keeps us from ever forgetting who you are or neglecting your sovereign rule.
Teach us to walk in obedience, to live as living sacrifices, to love you with all our hearts, and to serve you with all our soul.
In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen!
