During pregnancy, many women face fear and uncertainty. From the moment of conception until the day our child is delivered, many “what ifs” arise in our minds.

”What if my child is unhealthy?”

”What if my baby is born prematurely?”

”What if I can’t have a normal delivery?”

These “what ifs” fill our thoughts and stir up countless negative emotions. Yes, this is a battle of mind.

Today, there are many medical tests designed to help us better understand our baby’s condition. While these tests have good intentions, we must admit—they often bring fear and anxiety as well.

Sometimes, the more hospital checkups we go through and the more explanations we hear from the doctor, the more our fears seem to grow. However, as children of God, we should not let fear take hold of us—instead, we must stand firm on the ground of faith to face the battle. Let us start to mediate the truth, and let the Word of God strengthen our faith and drive out all fears! God is in control!

Mediate who God is

Psalm 139:13-16

13For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well. 15My frame wasn’t hidden from you, when I was made in secret, woven together in the depths of the earth. 16Your eyes saw my body. In your book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there were none of them.

Isaiah 44:24

24The LORD, your Redeemer, and he who formed you from the womb says: “I am the LORD, who makes all things; who alone stretches out the heavens; who spreads out the earth by myself;

Isaiah 64:8

8But now, LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay and you our potter. We all are the work of your hand.

Psalm 16:5-6

5The LORD assigned my portion and my cup. You made my lot secure. 6The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places. Yes, I have a good inheritance.

Psalm 121:4-6

4Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5The LORD is your keeper. The LORD is your shade on your right hand. 6The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

Jeremiah 29:11

11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says the LORD, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

1 John 4:18

18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.

Surrender the baby to god, including all our fears and anxiety

2 Corinthians 10:5

5Throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

Matthew 6:27

27“Which of you by being anxious, can add one moment to his lifespan?

Matthew 10:29-31

29“Aren’t two sparrows sold for an assarion coin? Not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. 30But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31Therefore don’t be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.

1 Peter 5:6-7

6Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time, 7casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

Psalm 81:6

6“I removed his shoulder from the burden. His hands were freed from the basket.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you that you trust us and have chosen us to become parents. We acknowledge that you are the Creator of this baby, and that his/her life comes from you. Even though we do not fully understand how a baby grows in the mother’s womb, you know every detail. This is your masterpiece, and it reflects your unsearchable wisdom.

We confess that we often feel anxious and fearful about whether our baby will be strong and healthy, and we want to be in control. But now, we cast all fear and anxiety onto you. All fear must go in the name of Jesus. Father, fill us with your love and divine peace, so that we can rest in your wonderful work and patiently wait for this baby’s arrival.

We boldly declare that this baby belongs to you! Our mighty God, who watches over the baby, will neither slumber nor sleep!

In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen!
